What is a Full-Body Skin Screening?

It’s finally summer and we’re busy planning for trips, that beach getaway, hike to the mountains, family barbecue, or just enjoying our backyard. But are we thinking about our skin? A mineral sunscreen with at least SPF 30+ protection every 2 hours is essential along with a thorough full body skin exam.

To support our local community and skin cancer awareness, North Dermatology is offering free full-body skin checks for new patients until August 31st 2025.

Why get a Skin Exam: The Numbers

An estimated 5.4 million cases of non-melanoma skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, were diagnosed in 3.3 million people in the United States in 2012

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, experiencing five or more blistering sunburns between ages 15 and 20 increases one’s melanoma risk by 80% and nonmelanoma skin cancer risk by 68%.

What is a Full-Body Skin Exam:

A full-body skin exam is a thorough visual inspection of your skin. It covers all areas of the body—from your scalp to the soles of your feet—in search of abnormal moles, growths, or spots that may be signs of skin cancer or other skin conditions. The exam is non-invasive, typically lasts 10 minutes, and is one of the most effective ways to detect skin cancer early.

What to Expect:

• A 10-minute full-body skin exam

• Performed by a board-certified dermatologist

• Education on sun protection and skin monitoring

• Recommendations for follow-up care if needed

Who Should Attend:

• Anyone with a personal or family history of skin cancer

• Individuals with many moles, fair skin, or history of sunburns

• Anyone who has never had a professional skin exam
